R. Carlos Nakai and Keola Beamer in Native Voices

Native Voices brings together two legendary performers from America’s indigenous peoples—Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and Hawaiian Slack Key guitarist Keola Beamer.  Long regarded as trend-setting musicians and articulate spokesmen for their cultures, Nakai and Beamer will be appearing together for the first time to promote their collaborative  CD,  “Native Voices ” on Canyon  Records.  Their concert performances will include music played on Native American and Hawaiian flutes, Slack Key guitar, and chanting from both cultures.

R. Carlos Nakai - World Premier and the Mozart Project

We are pleased to bring two worlds of music together when R. Carlos Nakai is joined by Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center Violist Paul Neubauer and his hand-selected quartet including violinists Arnaud Sussman and Lilly Francis and cellist Sophie Shao. The evening includes the world-premier of James DeMar's "Tarot" for Native American Flute and String Quartet.
The evening will open with a prelude performed by Mr. Nakai, followed by a performance of String Quartet No. 12 in F, Op. 96, B. 179, nicknamed the American, one of the most popular pieces of chamber music by the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák. "Tarot" will be performed on the second half of the program.

Paul Neubauer's Mozart Project

Paul Neubauer's exceptional musicality and effortless playing distinguish him as one of this generation's quintessential artists. Balancing a solo career with performances as an Artist of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Neubauer at age 21 was the youngest principal string player in the New York Philharmonic's history. He is the Orchestra and Chamber Music Director of the OK Mozart Festival in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Trio Appassionata

As Artists in Residence, the Trio will focus on community education outreach. Jan. 5 and 6 the Trio with perform four concerts for youth in Sedona and surrounding schools.

Jan. 6, from 6 - 9 p.m., at the home of Edward Ingraham and Martha Mertz, the Appassionata will perform a catered salon concert. Tickets for the evening are $65 per person and limited to 30 guests. This event is now sold out!

Jan. 8, Chernicoff will perform a solo work at the 10 a.m. service at Church of the Red Rocks, while Casarrubios will perform at 9:30 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Rolim performs at 10 a.m. at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.

The trio has been coached by some of today’s most eminent chamber musicians including Seth Knopp, Michael Kannen, Alison Wells, Violaine Melançon and Maria Lambros, as well as members of the Miró and Brentano Quartets. The trio has performed in many concerts at Peabody including on the Thursday Noon Recital Series. In April 2008, Trio Appassionata was chosen to play in Peabody’s 150th Anniversary Gala and, most recently (2010), the trio was selected to be among the first of the Peabody Honors Ensembles.
